It just started with a blog I was reading. Somebody posted the link on Facebook which increased my inquisitiveness. I am already awed by what I see in virtual worlds. I am amazed at how the developers paint those 3D dreams. So whats next?
Have you heard of the most talented people coming together to challenge their own line of work? Yes, we often hear that. What I mean to say is the skilled heads have taken up yet another challenge to take a step further to imitate real world. So, is the virtual world just an escape from our reality? Is MMORPG an interactive space or is it taking the gaming experience to a whole new level?
So, what is Virtual Reality (VR)?
Virtually real. Have you seen the movies “ The Matrix“, “Avatar” ? We are getting close to something like that. No more distractions from the real world environment. Minimum use of mouse and keyboards. Move around and do things just by moving with motion sensors. The sensors help with changing your facial expressions while you speak, which is very difficult to produce in a virtual world. There can be live performers from all over the globe playing live music at the same time and much more.
“A lady’s imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, and from love to matrimony in a moment.”
~ Jane Austen
How many of you have read “Pride and Prejudice” or “Emma“? If not read am sure you have saw the movies that have been produced and re-produced. Almost every club has a Book Club in respect to Jane Austen. As we have heard of about the other evergreen writers like Shakespeare, Conan Doyle; Jane Austen’s work is widely read and discussed. Jane Austen, 41 years old gave us, the world with her great novels during 1811 to 1816.
We have talked about her stories. So, how would you feel if you could experience her world? If you could back to 1800′s? How would you write the novels, letters, poems, prayers etc.walking through her life? Or may be just walk through the life of your favorite character? What if there is a time travel to the past?
Already imagining what it would be like? Then, I have got a good news for you all. Want a hint? Look into the left side bar. Did you just try it?
Linden Labs have announced an update to their pricing for Educational and nonprofits Institutions. The news came via Second Life’s Community blog, this week (July 24th 2013). In the early days of Second Life, it was a prime location for Education and Non Profit institutions offering a way for users to connect with each other from around the world.
“Effective immediately, any accredited educational institution or any organization with a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit tax status (or equivalent) is eligible for a 50% discount on private region set-up costs and a 50% discount on private region maintenance costs.”
Since 2005 Second Life has been a second home to several institution such as Nottingham University, University of West England and Stanford University.
If you are a part of Second Life, you’ll need to update your viewers this week. Earlier this week Linden Labs began to the changes for their project Sunshine. It allows avatars to load quicker, according to the Second Life Community Website:
Project Sunshine stands up a Texture Compositing server that is separate from the Sims servers. When a Viewer needs to render an Avatar, it sends a message to the Sim, which in turn sends a message to the Texture Compositing Server. The Texture Server then performs the texture compositing and sends the results back to the Viewer.”
Updates to the server has current begun. Second Life Users are asked to up date their viewers to fit with the new servers. They state:
“We will be starting to roll out those changes, which are the “heavy lifting” portion of Sunshine. Once the updates have rolled out, all avatar data will be rendered on Second Life’s servers, rather than on your computer. Because your local machine won’t have to render that data, you should start to see better reliability and improved performance across the grid.”
